Qatar National Library
Education City, Doha, Qatar 46,796 sq. m

The striking design of the Qatar National Library inspires visitors to access its treasure trove of books. Visitors are led towards internal corridors and terraces that look out onto the library’s contents. The aspiration for the building is to feel like a city of books, with the lower level of the building as an undiscovered treasure of priceless knowledge, as this is where the most rare and beautiful Arabic books are housed.

In addition, the library is a technological gold mine. There are online databases, 300 public computers and multimedia stock within an assistive technology unit, as well as interactive zones. The library, in collaboration with Qatar Foundation, is also a founding partner of UNESCO’s World Digital Library. It is working to digitize 500,000 Qatar-related documents. Essentially, anything ever written on or about Qatar, including information from the British Library will be accessible. QNL will also feature a dedicated section for children, building on Qatar Foundation’s vision to unlock human potential in Qatar
